Hilarious parodies of the UK Dragons’ Den

The reality television show Dragons’ Den never really took off in Australia (Seven axed it after it’s maiden series). However, it is a massive hit elsewhere in the world — local versions of the show have aired in 16 different countries, including Afghanistan and Nigeria(!).

In the UK, it has continued to prove popular viewing for BBC 2 and has even expanded into an online version [1]. And with popularity comes parody. With this much exposure and the interminable arrogance of it’s ‘dragons’, it was only a matter of time before the series was spoofed.

These two amusing sketches are courtesy of the BAFTA-award-winning comedy sketch program Harry and Paul [2], featuring Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. While clearly lampooning the regular UK Dragons, who won’t be familiar to most Australians, there’s also much mirth to be found in their portrayal of the shows endless line of absurdly optimistic entrepreneur-pitchers.
